Abstract: “Creative Coloring” is a common phenomenon in literary translation. This study begins by introducing the concept of “creative coloring” and distinguishing it from “creative treason” to which it is intended as a complement. Subsequently, it delves into Michael Berry’s translation of Han Song's science fiction novel Hospital as a case study, exploring its content and stylistic intricacies. It further examines how the translator, while faithfully reproducing the theme and style of the original work, enhances the vitality and communicative power of the translated text through “creative coloring” in the translation process.
