Abstract:
This study examines the syntaxsemantics mismatched structure via a topical analysis. After pointing out the theoretical deficiencies of previous analyses, the study finds out, however, that paraattributes in different syntactic positions embody different semantic relations. It is also proposed that the syntaxsemantics mismatched sentences such as “ta de toufa lide bucuo” and “ta shi qunian shengde haizi” form topic structures, in which “ta” is the topic while “de” and “shi” are basically topic markers. It is concluded that a topical analysis is helpful in distinguishing a syntaxsemantics mismatched structure from the “matched” one and in clearing the syntactic and semantic ambiguities.
