Abstract:
This paper is concerned with the syndrome effect of language as conceptualized in the Systemic Functional Linguistics.By abstracting the universal structure and working mechanism of various syndromes, it investigates the syndrome effects manifested in the different strata of language, including the lexicogrammar, the semantics, the context and the social-cultural system. The grammatical syndromes are rooted in the concurrent relations among the grammatical resources triggered by a certain context. The syndrome effects span the different strata of language and form a relationship of realization, the concurrent socio-cultural features being the very "natural" driving force for the syndrome effects of language.
