Abstract:
In light of the key concepts and principles of the complex dynamic systems theory in the field of applied linguistics, this paper argues that second language pragmatics research lacks theoretical and interpretive adequacy. Therefore, the paper argues for the necessity and practicality of employing a complex dynamic lens into the field. The paper proposes a model that incorporates the complex dynamic perspective into second language pragmatic development research, and outlines four specific directions for future research in the field.
