Abstract:
Online information-seeking is a crucial step in translating, but no information-seeking competence scale for translation with adequate psychometric properties has been devised until now. The current research tries to develop an online information-seeking competence scale for translation students. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses demonstrate that there are three factors:strategy, evaluation and monitor. The scale shows adequate levels of reliability and validity. According to the result, the participants didn't make full use of online resources and were lacking in deep analyses of information; motivation and competence levels affect online information-seeking in translation, and that there are some differences between translation-oriented and general online information-seeking in respect of factor structure. The scale proves to be a reliable tool for translation-oriented online information-seeking teaching and studies.
