Abstract:
Research on the translation of Chinese political discourse should not only focus on translation method, but also the reception effect. Taking the core concept “
dixian siwei” from
Xi Jinping: The Governance of China as an example, this article analyzes the reception of the translation of Chinese political discourse based on native English readers’ responses to revised versions and promotion forms. From the responses of 100 native readers via Prolific platform, it is discovered that the final version is highly accepted while negative connotations might be triggered if no attention is paid to the wording of translation, and the multimodal form of communication is more attractive. Consequently, this article puts forward two suggestions for the translation and international communication of core concepts in Chinese political discourse, including avoiding negative connotation and diversifying communication modes.
