A Methodological Model for Cognitive Neurolinguistics

  • The paper is an attempt to construct a methodological model for cognitive neurolinguistics, a newly emerging highlight in linguistics. It is argued in the first place that linguistics in the modern scientific terms has advanced along with the inquiry into the mind approaching from philosophical, cognitive scientific and cognitive neuroscientific perspectives.Secondly, within the framework of cognitive neurolinguistics, theories should be created with monism as the philosophical assumption and based on cognitive neuroscience. Finally, the model is conceived with five interactive and integrative strata, namely, the epistemological, linguistic symbolic, behavioral, psychological and neural levels, among which the first two generally aim at creating hypotheses and the latter three at testifying the hypotheses.Such a model is presumably conducive to the evaluation of the explanatory power of various theories and assessment of the validity of evidence.
