Manipulationism and Capitulationism in Ethical Proposals for Translation Models

Abstract
Ever since the 1990s or earlier, ethical proposals for translation models on "how to translate" have been varied and multifarious.Amid all this controversy and contradiction, two kinds of voice can be heard distinctly. They are theory of manipulation, which argues for rewriting and selection according to one's own aims, purposes, plans, expectations, etc., and theory of surrender, which insists on giving oneself up and letting the source text grow or display on its own.The former is in fact egoism, which regards oneself as the center of the world and the measure for everything else, while the latter is some kind of altruism, which concerns about the source text's own truth and value.
