Abstract
Bhatia(2008b,2012)noticed that professional discourse increasingly appropriate or exploit generic resources associated with other genres and practices, giving rise to ‘mixing’, ‘embedding’, and ‘bending’ of generic norms in professional contexts so as to give expression to their own private intentions. This paper probes into the South China Sea Arbitration, revealing the ways in which it appropriated the generic resources of litigation with the possible intention of demonizing the People's Republic of China and impairing its sovereign rights in the South China Sea.
