The Lexical Constructional Model: A New Member of the Construction Grammar Family

  • The Lexical Constructional Model (LCM), which is a new construction grammar theory proposed by Ruiz de Mendoza and his collaborators in recent years, aims to systematically explain the intrinsic relationship between construction and human cognitive models, and reveal how different kinds of conceptual pattern interact to yield complex meaning representations.By drawing on the views of cognitive semantics, functional linguistics and pragmatics, LCM largely compensates for several limitations of previous construction grammar theories, and aduances the dialogue and integration between construction grammar and other linguistic theories both in depth and breadth. This study attempts to provide an introduction of the basic assumptions, overall framework and main points of LCM, review its merits and limitations, and suggest directions for future research.
