Embracing Digital Technologies in Language Research: An Emerging Language Research Paradigm driven by Science and Technology Development

As the world is now entering into the digital age, the development and application of digital technology has become the new momentum for the growth of economy, science, technology and culture. Digitalization will further trigger a broader industrial and life revolution. Academic research in all disciplines will be influenced by digital technologies, and linguistic research is no exception. The rapid progress of artificial intelligence needs to be supported by many disciplines; but regrettably linguistics showed a tendency to be marginalized, which not only triggered the reflection of linguists, but also inspired linguists to follow the "Linguistics+" model, integrating with other disciplines, and opening the possibilities of applying digital technologies to language research.
