Abstract
The new era comes with new challenges for College English teaching. It is both important and necessary for people involved in College English teaching to precisely recognize the changes and respond to them in a rational way, understanding the direction of College English teaching and the requirements for talent training in the new era, seizing the opportunities brought by new technology and a formulating assessment system fitting in with the new era. To train high-quality talents for national development, efforts should be made to properly handle the relationship between the needs of national development and those of personal development, the relationship between instrumentality and humanity regarding the nature of College English, the relationship between online and offline teaching, and the relationship between teaching and assessment.
