Is Translation “Manipulation” or “Surrender”?

Abstract
Referring to the question “how to translate”, the author argues that we need, first of all, deepen our understanding of the cross-cultural and cross-linguistic nature of translation, the relationship between source text and translated text, and the power of the translator. The translation standards and translation strategies should be stipulated in a dynamic, pluralistic, distinctive, harmonious and complementary way.Translation is both “manipulation” and “anti-manipulation”, both “surrender” and “anti-surrender”.The implementation of moderate domestication, foreignization or hybridization depends on our correct understanding of the nature and the purpose of translation and the demands of the reader.
