Abstract
This study, grounded in the theory of language contact, conducts a quantitative analysis of preposition usage in English and Chinese texts using the “English-Chinese Classics Corpus” (ECCC). The research finds that a continuum of preposition usage exists between modern Chinese novels, English novels, and their Chinese translations, with an upward trend in preposition distribution. Variance analysis reveals significant differences in preposition usage between Chinese translations and modern Chinese novels. The study suggests that English and Chinese prepositions interact through language contact, primarily affecting the target language framework, enriching it without altering its linguistic properties.
